What helps you cultivate kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity in your life? Is it receiving or offering simple acts of kindness, being in nature, experiencing challenges that help us appreciate what we may take for granted? In this class we will experience what the energy of well-being feels like in the body, heart and mind, and what it looks like on paper through intuitive drawing and painting. As we nourish joy, compassion, kindness, and generosity in our lives these qualities grow stronger!  We will also explore scientist Rick Hanson’s teachings about turning a positive “state” into a “trait” through experiencing something repeatedly.

We can also become aware of the obstacles that may block us from experiencing qualities of open-heartedness. Together we will set an intention to incline our hearts and minds towards caring for ourselves, each other, and the earth and let it manifests in our images and lives.

Materials: For your first class, begin with cray-pas and/or watercolor paints and brushes, mixed media paper (size of your choice), and a journal and pen. You will also need a piece of scratch paper to warm up! If you don’t have these supplies, no worries! Use whatever you have at hand such as pastels, crayons, or markers. The main point is to make art!
